Margaret Cogan, born on August 17, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on September 25, 2017. Her devoted husband, Bob Cogan, born on May 31, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on January 14, 2025. Together, they lived a full, rich life, dedicated to family, faith, and each other. Margaret graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. She was an elementary school teacher and later chose to devote herself as a stay-at-home mom and wife. Margaret’s life was built around love, loyalty, and her deep faith. She was passionate about reading Christian books, exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping, and cherished family time. Her adventurous spirit was matched by her selflessness, hospitality, and kindness. Margaret was preceded in death by her father, James Melville Rust, and her mother, Grace Henderson Rust. Bob earned his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Art from UC Santa Barbara, followed by a Master’s degree in Industrial Art from Long Beach State University. He dedicated his career to teaching industrial art at Dodson Junior High School. Bob had a keen creative mind and was always looking for new projects to tackle. Whether it was water skiing, boating, working on cars, or simply enjoying reading, Bob approached life with wit, strength, and an enduring love for his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Cogan, his mother, Myrtle Cogan, his brother, Bill Cogan, his sister, Marjorie Kelley, and his beloved wife, Margaret. Margaret and Bob were the proud parents of three sons: Steve, Gary, and James. They were beloved grandparents to Marc, Shayla, Garret, Blake, Gracie, and James and cherished great-grandparents to Edith, Lincoln, and Shirley. They were also survived by their daughters in law; Nancy, Rene and Ana. Margaret and Bob’s lives were defined by their love for one another, their dedication to their family, and their unwavering faith. They leave behind a legacy of devotion, strength, and love that will continue to inspire their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for generations to come. A celebration of their lives will be held February 7, 2025 at 2:30 pm in the Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel, with a graveside service including full Military Honors to follow in the Sunset Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice in their honor. Some of Bob and Margaret’s favorite charities were: St. Peter’s By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church, Keck Medicine of USC and The Nepal Youth Foundation. Margaret and Bob Cogan will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
